food and legislature
Today was a good day. Almost all of us have come over their jetlag and we are getting pretty lively after some sort of mild delirium. We went to the Country Hall ofd Fame this mornign and learnmed loads about country music. It was actually more interesting than you would think - there was nice interactive thingees and you could listen to good music and see weird cars and a gold piano that once belonged to Elvis. Wow! Afterwards our friend Bob took us to Germantown which is an area of Nashville which has its own Oktoberfest and claims to have German tradition and many people of German descent in it. We wnet out for some delicious Southern style food and it was unbelievable. The place was so cosy - you felt like you were sitting in some old granny's dinig room. The food was really special and I did not know a single dish. As a vegetarian I did not get to try the special dish which was southern fried chicken, but I can tell you that I was totally
stunned by just havong to cope with all the side orders they had passing around. It was really yummy! Afterwards we took a tour of Germantown and got to know about its history. Again the weather was pretty nice and so everyone enjoyed themselves. The warm and humid weather threw us back in our mild delirium though and everyone git pretty tired and lethargic. But we finally managed to take some decision, some of us ending up in a shopping mall and two of us going with Bob to the State Senate and trying to find out how state legislature works in Tennessee. It was hilarious and I know that is not what you would expect when you go intop a government bulilding. But Bob knew almost everyone and if he did not he talked to them anyway and asked them to introduce these two Germans from Dresden. We peeped into almost
every door in the building and even found our way into the governor's office. It was pretty audacious but it worked. After all we were just two foreigners who are not supposed to know the rules and Bob is an eighty-year old guy who can be excused for anything...
Well, I think I am going into government buildings more often in the future, that much is sure.
We failed to pass our own bit of legislature eventually though because although we did manage to get into one of the official hearing rooms and work the microphones and therby sound really important we did not have any genius idea for a law we could pass. Poltics is not that easy after all...
Anyway, we are going to enjoy the nice mild weather now and go for some more food (which is probabnly our main business here) and some drinks. We will try to keep you up to date. After today I am sure there are more adventures coming up soon because, as we have learned today, you can even enetertain yourself in a boring Senate session...
